You Wouldn't Believe Our Horrible Experience

On 2/25/26, our new GE refrigerator GTS22KGNDRWW and IM4D icemaker were delivered. The icemaker was installed by the delivery men.
The IM4D icemaker is probably the worst on the market. Currently, our icemaker is not producing much ice.
We started having problems from the first week after delivery. The first icemaker did not produce much ice. So, we contacted GE. A repair technician came on 3/12/26 and replaced the first unit.
The second unit leaked water. Icicles formed around the outside of the unit on the top shelf. Ice chunks also formed on the bottom shelf from the dripping water. This second unit was replaced by a GE technician on 6/10/26 after we returned from a long trip.
The third unit also leaked. On 6/18/26, another GE technician came and tried to fix the leak. He adjusted the amount of water coming into the icemaker. After several days, we saw that the leak was not fixed. So, we contacted GE again. On 7/6/26, a GE technician came and tried to fix the problem. Now, the leak appears to be fixed. However, the unit is not producing much ice. After returning from a trip, we observed that the icemaker was only producing about 70 small cubes in 24 hours.
We are very frustrated and disappointed in GE! Our Kenmore icemaker was more than 20 years old when we replaced the refrigerator. The Kenmore icemaker produced large amounts of ice, and we never had a problem in 20 years. With the advances in technology, how can GE produce and sell a product that is vastly inferior to those produced 20 years ago by a different company? GE knows of the problems with this icemaker model. They are reported here in the reviews. We have wasted valuable time waiting for a GE technician to replace or repair our icemaker on 4 different dates. We are on our 3rd GE icemaker in 5 months, and it is not working properly. Our GE icemakers haven't produced much ice, or dripped water and formed ice in the bottom of the freezer. This should not occur with a brand-new product. We could get more ice by freezing water in a couple of ice cube trays and emptying the ice in a container. We have tried all the remedies reported to get more ice production. Our freezer temperature is approximately 0° F. If we would have known about the quality of the IM4D, we never would have bought our new GE refrigerator and icemaker.

I normally do not write reviews, but after reading the issues/problems others are having with this ice maker, I decided to add my review. I just purchased a GE top freezer refrigerator. This refrigerator is Model: GTS22KGNRBB. I also purchased the GE ice maker Model: IM4D. When the new refrigerator was delivered, I installed the ice maker and plugged-in the refrigerator. After two days, the ice maker had only made 46 cubes of ice. The ice maker was cycling every 6 hours. I thought there was no way this ice maker would ever produce enough ice. GE says that this ice maker will produce approximately 130 cubes in a 24-hour period. This means that the ice maker should cycle approximately every 1 hour and 30 minutes. I checked the temperatures in the refrigerator area and the freezer area with a digital refrigeration thermometer. Here are the following results with the Refrigerator set at (3 = GE recommend) and Freezer set at (3 = GE recommended): Cycle off temps: Refrigerator 35*F, Freezer -1*F / Cycle on temps: Refrigerator 39*F, Freezer 10*F. As you can see, the Freezer doesn™™t stay close to the 0*F temperature that the ice maker truly needs to operate correctly. This slows down the operation of the ice maker. I changed the Freezer from a setting of 3 to a setting of 4. This diverts colder air to the freezer area. I left the Refrigerator set at 3. The next morning, I checked the ice maker. To my surprise, the ice maker is now producing lots of ice. Yay! With the Refrigerator set at (3 = GE recommend) and Freezer set at (4) the cycle temps have changed to the following: Cycle off temps: Refrigerator 35*F, Freezer -5*F / Cycle on temps: Refrigerator 39*F, Freezer 6*F. As you can see, the freezer now stays closer to the ideal temperature of 0*F. I hope this information will help those who are having issues. I wish GE would update their Refrigerator Owner™™s Manual to inform customers that installing an ice maker will require Freezer Temperature adjustments for correct ice maker cycle operation.

Had the ice maker replaced once already in a 6 week old frig. Makes a quarter of the ice of our old freezer. Manual states it should make 130 cubes in 24 hours and it makes less than half that, plus they are smaller in size! A new product should work better than this. SO DISAPPOINTED!! I have all GE appliances and this is the second product I have purchased in the last year that didn't work straight out of the box. WASHING MACHINE AGITATOR WAS LOCKED UP, waited for nearly a month for a replacement. QUALITY IS DECLINING AND WILL THINK TWICE BEFORE I BUY ANOTHER GE PRODUCT !

Bought the old school GE top freezer after our 5 yr old LG fridge compressor died. Appliance store installed this ice maker and I installed water line.
Made maybe a dozen cubes a day for the first 4 or 5 days and was thinking this thing is not working properly. Was just about to call the appliance store. After the forth or fifth day, this thing took off and is cranking out ice to the point I wonder if the "full" plastic sensor is working properly. Not a bad problem now knowing it does make ice and keeps up with our needs.

Our current IM4D icemaker in our RV started leaking lots of water. We looked up our GE frig manual and it said we needed the RED label ice maker. We are traveling, so can™™t get delivery. A local Lowe™™s had 2 in stock. They had 2 open box IM4D™™s. First we checked was blue label. Second was red label, so we bought it. Installed it and over 24 hours later nothing. No ice being made. Frustrating!!

I bought this ice maker to replace an existing one that was the same model. It was freezing up more and more and not producing ice cubes. I replaced it with a new model. For the first 24 hours, it didn't produce any ice cubes. I returned it and replaced it with another new one. It is producing ice cubes, but only makes 7 or 8 cubes every 3-6 hours. This isn't very much ice. It is for my elderly mother who doesn't use an abundance of ice, but isn't enough. She isn't very happy with the ice maker, but it is the only model available. She is being very patient, but I know she's very disappointed. I offered to purchase a counter ice maker, but she doesn't have counter space. Very tired of spending the last week before Christmas dealing with this issue. I'd never purchase this model. Can't believe there are people who say it works great. I don't think they are being truthful. I did call GE and was given NO customer service or troubleshooting help on this issue.

I am very disappointed in this ice maker. The ice constantly over flows and dumps ice all over the floor and back of the freezer, so the only control is to use the shut off slide switch to shut off the ice maker until you need more ice. Having to use this slide so often caused it to break and I'm told we can't get a replacement slide switch and the only option is to replace the ice maker. It's a piece of crap!

Had this installed with the new GE refrigerator and after 4 months it has failed. Store warranty has just passed so I went to GE for manufacturers 1 year warranty. They refused to help me. Have been going back and forth with email but I still can't get satisfaction. Don't buy GE. Or should I say China's Haier who bought GE appliance in 2016 for 5.4 Billion.

We just bought this fridge from Home Depot along with the added icemaker. We had it installed three days ago and this is all the ice that we have had dump into the bucket. This is horrible.
With the reviews being so horribly poor, why does a GE fix this?
Now I™™m probably going to have to jump through a bunch of hula hoops to get a replacement and figure out how get someone to reinstall a new one

The back of the fridge says to get an IM4D ice maker. And while the plug does indeed connect, the screw holes do not line up and there™™s no way to attach the ice maker. Then I read in the owners manual ™does not work with S/S models™. Does that mean side by side? If it does, why would you have the connectors and water line and brackets but yet no ability to connect anything to them?

Love GE refrigerator, but this IM4D ice maker has only made 1/2 bucket of ice in 4 days. Set temp gauge on 4+, still not filling up. 5 is highest temp, and not energy efficient at that high. i did all the items on video, still not working. Green light didn't come on at all, like video indicated.

arrived today with a new GE fridge, the connection for power in the freezer and from the icemaker are oriented identically when they should mirror each other. So I can have it EITHER plugged in OR mounted properly BUT not both. Customer service told me to order a new one to see which plug is wrong. All I need is the cord to be 3 inches longer and it would be fine.

Brett1
12/3/2017
According to the manual, the rate of cycle is such that there should be a tray of ice made every 1 1/2 hours or so, as long as there is room in the bucket. My freezer is as cold as I can make it without freezing items in the main fridge, so the temperature is not slowing the unit down. Apparently, there is no way to speed up the cycling rate. I live alone, and the ice maker barely keeps up with me.
