Fridge stopped working after 18 months no warranty

I bought this refrigerator in August 2024 and the compressor stopped working in February 2026. The only way I see to start the warranty process is to have a GE service tech come out, but the first available appointment was two weeks away. We cannot be without a fridge for two weeks, so we had to purchase a new fridge. This time I am purchasing a Whirlpool which seems to have a better reputation for longevity and reliability based on what I read online, so we'll see how that works. I'm disappointed that an appliance that is supposed to last for 10-20 years, only lasted 10-20 months.

A Refrigerator With Everything I Wanted

I bought this refrigerator because it had everything I wanted: stainless steel, MANUFACTURER INSTALLED ice maker (not a kit), Reversible doors (a must have for me) and it's smaller capacity (17.5 cu ft) was perfect for me at this stage of life when it's just me. I like that it's Energy star and I like the shelving features: slidable deli drawer, butter holder, no drip glass shelves that are actually very light weight to lift & move, so cleaning will be easy and fridge itself is light weight and easy to roll in or out. It runs quietly and is temperature is perfect cold at recommended setting. Over all customers reviews of this refrigerator at Home Depot website were positive. The Ice maker is small but steadily pops out a single row of cubes (about 10), and will take several days to fill the bin, which for just me, is perfectly fine. It also has a easy to read on/off switch. I am quite satisfied with my purchase. I picked GE because it has a good reputation for customer service and a fair product longevity.

Temperature problems

Had a side by side GE that randomly went to 50 degrees for a day or two, ruining food. Tried this model, first one didn't make ice but fridge temp was perfect. Home Depot replaced it and it makes ice, but fridge temp is unsafe even on setting 4, when GE recommended setting is 3. GE sent Bodewell to check and tech said the glass shelves caused the bottom shelf to be warmer than the top shelf and the overall temp was too warm due to fan location. 41 degrees is not a safe temp. Ticket was created with GE and they determined that the fridge was operating as designed. So I'm stuck with an expensive, large icemaker. Not happy.

First small refrigerator holds quite a bit. The Sheldon on the doors are double wide so you don™€™t have to store things in the center of the refrigerator whereas you can put better things like desserts, fruit, etc. the freezer has an area for ice cubes and even comes with an ice cube holder, great in the summertime.

This refrigerator is situated in the Next Gen. I put the settings to 3 (recommended) and it is not so cold. But to our surprise the freezer produces too much ice (excessive). Even if the ice storage is not yet full - the ice fails to go to the freezer ice storage/container. Ice always dropped outside the freezer ice container.

I'm not happy with the ice maker. When the ice bin fills up to the level of the feeler arm, the machine is supposed to stop making ice ™€" but it doesn't. The problem is that the ice cubes often come out as a single row of 7 cubes joined together. These connected cubes sometimes fall on top of the feeler arm, preventing it from properly detecting that the bin is full. As a result, the ice maker continues producing ice even when it should stop.

The selves enable me to put gallon containers at a convenient level. I was able to adjust the shelves to what I wanted. It also has a deli meat drawer and 2 veggie/produce drawers. The door also holds alot of food. I love the icemaker too.

Bottom line - the refrigerator is too noisy, and the ice maker is too noisy. Also, no light in freezer is reduces practical functionality. Further, temperature adjustment provides only a few settings to obtain correct refrigerator temperature. I had read that it was noisy, but didn't imagine it would be this noisier than the 20 year old whirlpool refrigerator that is replaced. My work is disrupted each time refrigerator or ice maker comes on. Not a good value for the price, although it does seem that all refrigerators in this price range have deficiencies. Capacity, configuration, and shelving are all good. I will think twice before buying GE again.

Running cold quick. On the sale we got it, it is a good deal (649), by no means a good deal at full price(987). The hole in the stainless for flipping the handle is incredibly sightly and GE should really include a Stainless Steel plug for the hole, there's a white spot of raw insulation.

One reviewer mentioned that the doors don't self-close, but that's not true; there are front feet by the roller wheels that need to be adjusted for this to work (which is also mentioned in the manual). Having an ice maker at this price is awesome, though I haven't been able to hook it up and test it yet. The unit isn't silent, but I find it pretty quiet. On temp setting 4 (it operates on a standard scale of 1-5), I am seeing freezer temps right at 0 F and fridge temps between 36-38 F. The stainless steel looks great and the construction feels quality. Time will tell, but I am very happy so far!

It™€™s just a very basic, small refrigerator that doesn™€™t get as cold as a full-size fridge, even with the temperature control set to its coldest setting. It was put in by the builder of our new home (Lennar) as a perk to sell the house. The soft drinks that I keep in it get to just below room temperature, which isn™€™t my preference. I get enough of that in Europe. We™€™ll be replacing it with a better appliance in the next few months.

Intelligent layout: Adjustable shelf options for taller containers; easy access to meat, vegetable and fruit drawers; streamlined door shelf design, easy to clean, unlike door bins on other models. Top freezer can accommodate a frozen pizza up to 14 inches comfortably, unlike side-by-side refrigerators. So far the only CON is the factory-installed ice maker which does not work and is extremely noisy in it's water request. Noblett Appliance Installation techs were courteous, efficient; a very clean install. Will update on ice maker issue resolution. Hey, remember ice cube trays??

Ice maker is horrible. Spits out a few tiny cubes a day. Had the ice maker replaced thinking there was something wrong with it but it still produces very little ice.
